5 Spooktacular Ways to Celebrate Halloween in Your Dog Grooming Business : Treats, Tricks, and Spooky Client Delights

September 03, 20253 min read

Halloween isn’t just for kids—it’s the perfect time to sprinkle a little magic (and mischief!) into your dog grooming business. It might be the time of year for treats but if you are not making the most of this holiday season then you are definitely missing a trick. A few simple, creative touches can transform your salon into a spooktacular experience that delights your furry clients and their humans alike.

Here are some fun and profitable ways to celebrate Halloween in your home-based grooming business:

1. Give Your Grooming Room a Spooky Glow

Decor doesn’t have to be expensive or over the top. I used to go to my local Dealz (Poundland / Dollar Store) or Eurostore and stock up on spooky (grooming room appropriate) decor. A few seasonal touches can really set the scene. Halloween (Just like Christmas) is a feeling. Halloween is a feeling of magic in the air and silly goofy fun. It doesn’t take a lot to bring that feeling to life for your customers.

  • Pumpkin fairy lights or lanterns to create a warm glow.

  • Cobwebs and spiders (fake ones, of course!) for a spooky corner.

  • Pumpkin-scented candles or wax melts (kept out of paw’s reach).

  • A Halloween wreath on the door to welcome clients.

2. Frightfully Fun Finishing Touches

Make your grooms extra special with little themed extras. Again these don’t have to be super expensive especially if you are any bit crafty. My mother made all our Halloween bandanas. She was able to pick up materials really cheaply and then using a craft scissors (with a zig zag edge) she cut them all to size using the other bandanas in the grooming room as a reference:

  • Doggie cologne in pumpkin spice or autumn berry.

  • Halloween bows or accessories for top knots.

  • A spooky background (pumpkins, hay bales, witchy props) for go-home photos that pet parents will love to share online. (This means the marketing is done for you!)

3. Go-Home Bags with a Treat

Send every pup home with a little “trick-or-treat” bag.

  • I used to buy kids trick or treat bags in the local Dealz or Eurostore and fill them with Halloween / Autumnal flavoured dog treats.

  • A Bumper Halloween Newletter

Newsletter Ideas - Communication is key—and Halloween is the perfect excuse for a themed edition! Fill it with:

  • Grooming tips for autumn (keeping coats tidy, paw care in wet weather).

  • A gallery of your Halloween grooms.

  • A fun competition / giveaway (cutest costume contest, “guess how many treats in the jar”).

  • Costume ideas

  • Recipe for pumpkin flavoured treats

  • A special Halloween offer (like discounted cologne spritz or themed accessories).

👉 If you don’t want to create this from scratch, I’ve got you covered. My one year of ready-made newsletters includes a spooktacular Halloween edition!

4. Spooky Social Media

For Halloween I used to change all my social media icons, background banners and page themes / website themes for a spooky version. This only took a couple of hours but I think it really showed people how much I loved my business and wanted to make the Holidays special for my clients (I did this for Christmas too). Halloween content is highly shareable too —use it to boost engagement:

  • Post before-and-after shots with Halloween backdrops.

  • Share behind-the-scenes clips of your decorated salon.

  • Run a “Halloween Giveaway” where clients submit photos of their dogs at home.

  • Use seasonal hashtags: #HowlOween #SpookyPups #FangtasticFur

5. Add a Dash of Fun Extras

  • Offer limited-time “Pumpkin Pup Pamper Packages” (example - Paw soak followed by Paw balm added to each groom).

  • If you are a new business or even if you are not you can host a Halloween open day with coffee, treats, and photo ops for clients.

Final Thoughts

Halloween is all about creating memories—and when you bring that magic into your grooming business, you’re not only delighting your clients, you’re also building loyalty and standing out from the competition. A few themed touches go a long way to making your salon the go-to place for festive fun.

So grab your pumpkins, stock up on treats, and get ready to turn your grooming space into a frightfully fabulous Halloween haven! 🎃
